Kenosha saw a mix of light flurries and heavier bands during the last winter storm, with most neighborhoods picking up between 3 and 5 inches of fresh snow. That pushed the season’s total to roughly 30 inches so far, which is close to the city’s long-term average of 42 inches but still leaves room for more before spring arrives.
The February system moved through quickly, dropping snow at rates of about one inch per hour at its peak. Wind gusts near Lake Michigan briefly reached 25 mph, creating narrow but slippery drifts along Highway 32 and Sheridan Road. Most side streets were cleared within 24 hours, though shaded corners near the Kenosha County Courthouse and the UW-Parkside campus stayed slick until mid-morning.
So far, Kenosha has received about 70 percent of its typical seasonal snowfall, which puts it behind last winter’s 48-inch total but slightly ahead of the 2021–2022 season’s 24 inches. The city’s snowiest stretch usually runs from late December through February, so there’s still time for another 10–15 inches before the thaw.
With another Alberta clipper possible next week, residents can expect lighter accumulations—usually 1 to 3 inches—unless the track shifts closer to the lake. Stocking up on ice melt and checking tire treads now saves the last-minute rush that often follows forecasts.
Meteorologists note that Kenosha’s snowfall has been trending slightly below normal over the past decade, partly due to warmer lake temperatures that can limit lake-effect bands. Still, late-winter storms can surprise, so keeping a shovel and a bag of pet-safe deicer in the garage remains a smart move.
